Charges to be Dropped in Justin Bieber Mall Frenzy Case

Justin Bieber has agreed to record a public service announcement on cyberbullying in order to resolve criminal charges filed against his manager and a record executive after a frenzy at a New York mall.

The case stemmed from an incident in 2009, when thousands of unruly girls turned up at a Long Island clothing store to see the teen pop star sign autographs. Police hadn't been expecting the crowd, and ordered the event cancelled.

Def Jam Records executive James Roppo was arrested after police said he refused to help disperse the crowd. Months later, police also pressed child endangerment charges against Bieber's manager, Scott Braun.

Braun hadn't been at the mall, but police said that when reached by phone he initially refused an order to send out a Twitter message to Bieber's fans telling them the singer wouldn't appear.

Prosecutors told a judge Friday that they are dropping charges against both men. The record company and a management company pleaded guilty to fire code violations.

In an interview with Newsday, Nassau District Attorney Kathleen Rice said she was happy with the outcome of the case.

"To have someone like Justin Bieber, who is emulated by kids his age across the world, educating people about the dangers of cyberbullying, that's invaluable," she said.

Sixx: A.M. Redefines Beauty on 'This Is Gonna Hurt'

It's kismet that People magazine's annual Most Beautiful People issue hit newsstands the same time that "Lies of the Beautiful People," the lead single from Sixx: A.M.'s new album, has burned up Billboard's rock radio charts. After all, the song was inspired by bassist Nikki Sixx's contempt for the yearly poll.

"It's not the people on the magazine [that I dislike]," Sixx says of the song that introduces "This Is Gonna Hurt," which arrived May 3 on Eleven Seven Music. "It's that [life] can be more than just one version of beauty."

Within 10 weeks "Lies" has reached No. 3 on both Active Rock and Heritage Rock and No. 16 on Rock Songs. To underline the song's impact with Sixx: A.M. fans, Tenth Street Entertainment West Coast VP of artist management Chris Nilsson points to numerous postings the song generated on Twitter and the band members' Facebook pages. The track has sold 25,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. First-day sales for the album weren't available at press time.

Sixx: A.M.'s debut album, 2007's "The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack," was a sleeper hit whose lead single, "Life Is Beautiful," hit No. 2 on both Active Rock and Heritage Rock. The album is a companion piece to Sixx's harrowing account of his heroin addiction, "The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star." The album has sold 344,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and the book debuted at No. 4 on the New York Times Best Seller List.

"The success of ["Life"] has people looking at Sixx: A.M. as an important band," says Allen Kovac, chairman/CEO of Tenth Street Entertainment, Sixx's management company. He notes that Tenth Street encountered resistance when it promoted "Life" to radio, but getting airplay for "Lies" has been "a lot easier."

Australian police have arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of breaking into a the concert and throwing eggs at Justin Bieber while he’s performing.

The teenager, who has hair similar to Justin Bieber in photos released by police, was led away in handcuffs after a dozen New South Wales officers raided his home in the Bondi Junction area of Sydney at 7.30am today (May 5).

He was taken to a local police station and charged with several offences including breaking and entering, trespass and malicious damage. His face is not revealed in the photographs because of his age.

The 17 yo Justin Bieber HATER is suspected of breaking into the city’s Acer Arena venue last Friday night via its roof while Justin was performing. Once inside, it is suspected he threw several eggs at Justin but they all missed their target and Justin completed his concert.

Taylor Swift was able to give Austin Swift a great big smile on his face when she surprised him with something a little unusual for his recent birthday: Lederhosen.

Taylor posted the pic on twitter of her and her 19 year-old brother carrying a tankard and wearing the traditional German clothing – lederhosen and tunic – while she looks on with a straight face.

“I finally got to see my brother and give him his birthday present– this outfit I bought in Germany,” the singer said with the accompanying photo.

The Cure to 'Reflect' on Classic Albums
As part of Vivid Live at the Sydney Opera House, the Cure will perform their first three albums -- "Three Imaginary Boys," "Seventeen Seconds" and "Faith" -- in a one-time experience called "The Cure 'Reflections.'" The performance will be filmed on May 31 and June 1. "Vivid is an exceptional event, and we are very excited to be taking part," says frontman Robert Smith. "We have played a lot of memorable shows in Australia - we first performed here in 1980, and this will be our seventh trip - but it will be our first time onstage in the Sydney Opera House, and we want to do something unique to mark the occasion."

Jackie Evancho To Unveil New Songs on QVC
Eleven-year-old singing sensation Jackie Evancho will premiere songs from her first album, "Dream with Me," on the QVC network beginning next Tuesday (May 10). The album, specially packaged with a bonus DVD, will also become available through QVC beginning Tuesday, more than a month before its street date.

Blue Man Group Holds 'Instrument Contest'
Blue Man Group and Scholastic partnered for an "instrument National Contest" that invited students in grades 5-9 to invent an original musical instrument made with repurposed objects. Part of Blue Man's concept is the development and construction of instruments, and in this case, over 400 kids from around the country responded with instruments made from everything from zippers to buckets.

Judges included Steve Van Zandt, Path Metheny and Nile Rogers, who, from over 400 entries,  chose 15-year-old 9th grader Chase Rudlsill from South River High School in Maryland as the winner. Rudlsill made a "Bass Guitar Drum that uses a bucket and tuned rubber bands and, most  importantly, according to a press release, "sounds cool."

As part of the prize package, Rudlsill and his family will travel to Blue Man Group at Universal Orlando Resort where the new instrument will be featured during a Blue Man performance May 12. Rudlsill and the teacher who sponsored him, Deborah Lesko, will each get awarded $5,000.

Ellie Goulding Talks Royal Wedding, Calls Tina Fey Her 'Favorite Lady Ever'

Goulding's name seems to be in the air lately, known to some as the world's most famous wedding singer. Last Friday, at the Royal Wedding, Goulding performed almost a full gig of "about 14 songs," including her chill-inducing cover of Elton John's "Your Song," she says. The experience was both "a real night to remember" and "a pleasant surprise" -- and it would not have happened without fellow U.K. music export, rapper Tinie Tempah.

"He [Tinie] introduced me to Prince William last year at a festival because they were both watching my set from the side of the stage," Goulding says. "William enjoyed the set so much that he kept me in mind for, obviously, last week."

If last week cemented Goulding's full-on fame in her native country (even after her 2010 debut, "Lights," reached No. 1 on the UK charts, fueled by the massive single "Starry Eyed"), this weekend will be her big stateside coming out. Without much warning ("a week or so," she says), Goulding will perform on "Saturday Night Live" May 7, alongside a powerhouse host -- Tina Fey -- that is bound to bring in big ratings. For the sake of Goulding's nerves, it's probably best that the prestige of an "SNL" performance is partially lost on the songstress.

"It's hard for me to process how much of a big deal 'SNL' is -- a real institution -- because we don't have it in the U.K." Goulding says, adding that host Fey is her "favorite lady ever -- I'm a big '30 Rock' fan."

"I had to do some [promos] with her [Tina Fey] yesterday, and everyone said I just turned into this weird shy girl around her," Goulding says.

After "Saturday Night Live," Goulding will find herself back in front of American audiences at Lollapalooza, following breakout performances at both Coachella and South By Southwest earlier this spring. "It involved rising to the incredible task of whittling my band down to next to nothing," Goulding said of her intimate SXSW gigs.

While Goulding's debut finally saw a U.S. release back in March of this year (one year after its original release date across the pond), new material that recalls the singer's acoustic beginnings is in the works.

"I'm been doing writing here and there -- whatever comes out of my weird head," she says. "I know what I want in a non-diva way."
